Life & Beth Season 2

Life & Beth is a funny and poignant half-hour TV show on Hulu, starring Amy Schumer and Michael Cera. I had the opportunity to assist composers Timo Elliston and Ray Angry with the score for season 2.

In addition to observing the composing process, I primarily worked in the orchestration and music prep department for this show. I spent long hours alongside the fabulous composer, orchestrator and conductor JoAnne Harris, creating parts for a string ensemble. I translated a full season’s worth of strings into sheet music for a recording session at Sear Sound in midtown Manhattan.

During the session, I stepped onto the podium and conducted an intimate string quintet as they played the spooky waltz cue “Dinner Music”.

Working as an orchestrator for television was both fun and challenging. I enjoyed translating the intention of the composer into highly detailed parts for strings. By managing section divisions, balancing bow techniques and tweaking dynamics, I created lush string atmospheres that garnered positive remarks from Amy Schumer herself!

I felt immensely grateful for the opportunity to learn from some of the best composers working in the industry today. I was inspired by their commitment to the craft and their relentless pursuit of excellence. I aspire to rise to their level on every project I work on.
